Purpose
Ensure the Region is making progress with its greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reduction efforts.
As information, technologies, and data becomes more available, the reporting of corporate greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions will be represented in greater detail with the inclusion of additional sources
A study is underway to assess opportunities and make recommendations to support the use of biogas at Region’s largest wastewater treatment plants, Skyway and Mid-Halton. The project will determine the best way of using digester-generated biogas to either generate electricity or a renewable natural gas that can be used in the community.
In 2023, 100 tCO2e of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions were reduced through lighting, control, and mechanical retrofits at various corporate and Halton Community Housing Corporation (HCHC) facilities.
A study is underway to assess opportunities and make recommendations to support mitigation of nitrous oxide (NOx) emissions at the Region’s wastewater treatment plants. The data from this project will help refine Halton Region’s greenhouse (GHG) emissions inventory and support future emission reduction strategies.
